Leonard Filgate

Leonard Filgate is best known for the artwork and books he created based on the RIP SQUEAK characters he and his wife, Susan Yost-Filgate developed for a successful series of children's books and images. Nearly 500,000 copies of the RIP SQUEAK books have sold worldwide and he has worked with the following publishers: Baumhaus Verlag (Frankfurt), Tall Fellow Press (Los Angeles), Every Picture Press (Los Angeles), Raven Tree Press/Delta Publishing (McHenry, IL), Parklane Publishing (Hauppauge NY), Georgetown Publications (Toronto), Ammos Books (Athens), Harcourt School Publishers (Orlando, FL), Rip Squeak Press (San Luis Obispo, CA). Filgate's work is collected around the globe and he has exhibited in many venues across the US and Canada. Filgate had a major solo exhibition at the Delaware Art Museum in 2005/2006, was the featured illustrator for the Los Angeles Times Festival of Books in 2003, is one of the children's book illustrators in the Simon Wiesenthal Museum of Tolerance's "Every Picture Tells a Story" exhibition which has traveled to the Bremen Museum in Atlanta, the Spertus Museum in Chicago, the Indianapolis Children's Museum, and other museums. Filgate was inducted as an artist member of the New York Society of Illustrators in 2006.
